Shortage of semiconductors: two manufacturers will invest 5.7 billion euros to open a factory near Grenoble

The project is one of the main announcements of the “Choose France” summit, organized in Versailles to promote the attractiveness of France. Two semiconductor manufacturers – the American GlobalFoundries and the Franco-Italian STMicroelectronics – will build a factory near Grenoble to produce semiconductors, for an estimated investment of 5.7 billion euros, the two companies have announced. and the French government on Monday July 11.

This new factory should create around 1,000 additional jobs at the Crolles site, where STMicroelectronics already has a large manufacturing site, and will benefit from “significant financial support from the French State”. The semiconductors that will be produced there will notably serve end markets “such as automotive, industrial, Internet of Things and communication infrastructure”, according to the two companies.
